Thailand.......Day 6

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Today was our first mobile medical clinic. We headed out to a rural village about 45 minutes from Chaing Mai. When we arrived we were at a little shaded pavilion area right next to a farm and some rice fields. It was very beautiful!

We set up and right away we had about 30 little older people waiting to see us. We started seeing patients and getting them through the line.

The people would come up and Veronica and I would take their vitals and then send them to the waiting area. Then they would see one of our doctors with an interpreter. The doctor would see the patient and do an exam, then write them a "prescription", sometimes for meds, sometimes for vitamins or creams. Then when they got their prescription filled, one of the Thai Christians will sit down with them, give them the medicine, and witness to them about Christ. It was amazing to see these witnesses for Christ! All day long over and over telling people about Jesus. We saw about 150 people and 3 prayed to receive Jesus. The pastor from the church and his group were so excited to have us there!

This mission trip is a bit different than a long-term mission trip. Our goal is not to go and bring hundreds of people to Christ, but rather to open doors for the Thai Christians living here to bring people in and to be able to minister to them.

It is amazing to think how the seeds we plant today may impact someone years from now. For example, the town we were in today did not want us to come at first. The Ah Jahn (pastor) told us that the first time he talked to the government officials, they said no to us coming. But the mayor of the town found out that we were Christians from America & when he was young, he had received a scholarship from an American Christian. So he agreed to let us come!

We ran the clinic all day long until about 3:30. People just stopped coming so we packed up and headed over to the church that was supporting us. We had our debriefing meeting and were able to hear from the Thai Christians about the people and what had been said. It was a great hour of praise and testimony.

The small church also is home to a 2 room orphanage that is home for 18 children. They have
lost their parents from flooding, from disease, from AIDS. The kids that were there were so
sweet! It really makes you appreciate having a 4 bedroom house when you see 7 girls sleeping in 1 small bedroom, and 11 boys in the other.

After the clinic we went back to our hotel and headed out to the Night Market to get some dinner and do a little shopping.  We ended up eating pizza!  A few pictures from the Night Market.

Off to bed for another busy day of clinic tomorrow!
