Hawaii- Oahu- Pearl Harbor- Day 10

Sunday, April 29, 2012

Today turned out to be a jam-packed busy, crazy day!  We decided to go snorkeling at hanauma bay nature preserve.  We had a few delays getting out the door.....and ended up not arriving until about 11:00.  By the time we watched the intro movie, rented snorkeling gear for Rochelle & the kids, and got into the water, it was almost noon!  Logan, Chris, and AJ got a good 45 minutes in the water, but I only was able to spend about 5 minutes.  I had to take Ethan out because he was so terrified of seeing another eel!  : )

We left around 12:45 and raced back to Jim & Rochelle's hotel where we showered off by the pool and quickly got dressed.  We had 2:30 reservations fro Pearl Harbor.  We ended up calling and getting them moved forward to 3:30 and still barely arrived in time.  Traffic is pretty crazy in Honolulu!

We quickly headed into the theater and watched the movie about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and all the souls lost.  It was really interesting and sad.  Then we took the ferry out to the monument and explored there for awhile.

Oil still leaks from the USS Arizona

After the ferry, we had about 45 minutes to tour the museum and hit the gift shop.  We raced through trying to see everything!

We left Pearl Harbor and made our way back to Waikiki for a beach-side dinner at Duke's.

Jim and Rochelle are celebrating their 25th Wedding Anniversary!

We ended up leaving Duke's really late, lost Logan in the massive hotel when we went back to pick up our luggage, found Logan, and then raced to return our rental car and catch our flight.  With about 30 minutes until take-off, we raced about 1 1/2 miles through the Honolulu Airport- I am not kidding!  It was ridiculous!  But we made it onto our Red-Eye 10:30pm flight for Phoenix.  Whew!

Some sleepy boys on our flight home!

Overall we had a wonderful vacation in Hawaii!  We saw some really amazing things and got to spend lots of time with our family.  A great time!
