Cub Scout Fall Camp- September 2012- O'Leary Campground & Sunset Crater National Monument, Flagstaff, AZ

Our Bear Den hosted the Fall Camp-out this year.  We rented out 2 sites at O'Leary Campground in Flagstaff, AZ.  The campground was really nice- plenty big enough for the group, had nice outhouses, and a large pavilion area for activities.  It was located just down the road from Sunset Crater National Monument- so we did that for our Sunday Activity.

We went up Friday evening and set up camp.  We ate cheeseburgers & hot dogs, made smores, and watched "Up" on the big screen- Angela brought a projector and popcorn for everybody!  After a quiet morning of prepping for camp, we started with a Flag Ceremony.

After lunch, Chris divided the boys up by den and they spent the afternoon rotating through 4 different stations.  The first was games with horseshoes & Ladder Ball.

Nadine and the Webelos II den were running a station on Geology.  The boys learned about Lava, types of rocks, and uses for different minerals.  They also got to "explode" a volcano and make "fossils".  They earned their Geology Belt Loop and Pin.

Next we had Outdoor Cooking with Mike and Stacy.  The boys made eclairs and also some cakes in the dutch ovens.  Yummy!

Next we did crafts with Angela.  The boys made these really cool water bottle holders!  They got to practice their sewing skills and the holders turned out really neat.

We had some free time and then served dinner.  Our campfire program was lead by Mark.  He brought his guitar and microphone- so that was really helpful!  We interspersed songs and skits from each den.  It was really fun and we had alot of laughs!

Connor after his skit!

Sunday morning worship service.  Mike gave a nice devotion and Mark played some music.  Simple but a great way to start a Sunday Outdoors.

Pancakes and Bacon???

After we closed up camp we headed over to explore Sunset Crater National Monument.

The kids completed their work to earn their Geology Pin as well as get their Junior Ranger Badges.

We hiked the mile long Lava Trail.  It is so crazy to think that this whole area is formed by lava flow!  It was crazy to see such similar flows and land structures as the ones we saw in Hawaii.

See the Lava Flow?
