Deer Valley Rock Art Museum

December 15, 2011

I was able to join Logan's 4th grade class on their field trip to the Deer Valley Rock Art Museum.  This is a really neat place, right by our house, that has a ton of Native American petroglyphs as well as other artifacts.

Riding the bus with Conner

My group!

We first went into a room a learned about petroglyphs.  The kids were able to make their own petroglyphs.

We had a presentation in the museum and learned about some of the artifacts there.

We got to ground Mesquite pods into flour using the grinding stones- manos.  It was hard work!

After that we took the walking tour around and saw a ton of petroglyphs carved into rocks on the side of this hill.  It was really amazing!  At first you couldn't see anything and then as you looked closer, there they were!

It was an interesting and fun field trip.  I was glad I got to go with Logan!
