Bat Night at Hassayampa River Preserve with Cub Scouts

Our cub scout den visited the Hassayampa River Preserve near Wickenburg for their "Bat-Night".  When we arrived we spent some time exploring the museum.  They had some neat hands-on exhibits with all kinds of animal skeletons, birds nests, and history of the area.  The kids enjoyed it!

We headed down to the area where they were doing the bat presentation.

We learned alot about bats and where they live and eat.  The presenter did a few games with the kids and they got to practice using some sonar equipment to listen for the bats.

Then we hiked down to near the river where they had several nets hung up to catch bats.  We waited and waited for a long time.  The kids had alot of fun looking for scorpions with their black lights!  The scientists y only caught 1 little bat!  He was so cute!

Even though we didn't get to see many bats, it was still a great outing!
